We use the ideals and principles of ‘Holistic Management’ to let our grasses grow taller; to better the root depth and soil structure. Then we can keep the cows outside longer and don’t need as much silage. Upsides – less housing cost Downsides – grass quality can be a challenge.
The calves are with mum for 7-10 months and suckle for 4 of them; we use ‘Quiet wean’ tags to allow them to stay in the herd but weaning them without intervention.
