Sustainable

Mossgiel is not just a farm, we’re a response to what dairy has become.

For decades, milk has been treated like a commodity - stripped down, standardised, and sold as cheaply as possible. Farmers were squeezed. Quality was lost. And the system stopped working for everyone involved.
We decided to do something different.

Mossgiel is a family-run dairy farm in Ayrshire, farming the same land for generations, but the business you see today didn’t come from tradition alone - it came from breaking away from it.

When the milk price collapsed, we stopped supplying big dairy and took control of our own future. We began producing, processing, and delivering our own milk directly - building a new model from scratch.
One that works for farmers, for animals, and for the people drinking it.

We don’t believe milk should be engineered in a factory. So we do things differently:

- Cows raised on a natural, pasture-based system

- Milk is minimally processed using our brewing method

- No ultra-processed ingredients. No unnecessary intervention

- Delivered in reusable packaging, not single-use plastic

Everything we do is about producing milk as close to nature as possible.

We started with our own herd.

But this was never just about Mossgiel - our goal is to build a better dairy system - one that supports small farms and gives them a viable future.
So we work with a small number of like-minded farms who share our standards. Farms that prioritise animal welfare, soil health, and real food.
Every drop of milk carrying the Mossgiel name stands for that.

This isn’t just about milk.

It’s about the kind of food system we want to support.
One that values quality over volume, supports farmers properly, produces food without unnecessary processing and works with nature, not against it

We’re not here to fit into the dairy industry. We’re here to change it.

Local

True sustainability also means being able to stand on our own two feet.  Historically, the Farm was tied into supplying “Big Dairy” and when the Milk price collapsed, caused by unfair practices, we realised that we did not have a voice, which almost bankrupted us...

The decision to turn back the clock and bring back the goodness of yesteryear in a more robust, independent way of doing things, is what has led to the Mossgiel Organic Farm of today. To further the cause of sustainability, we believe that there must be fairness in the supply chain, from grass to glass. Therefore, we support as many local businesses as we can, promoting seasonal organic produce in our Coffee Shops and supplying our Organic Milk to many other businesses who are doing likewise.

Healthy

It’s not just businesses that we supply – in 2021 we won the tender to supply the Nurseries and Primary Schools of East Ayrshire with the first zero-waste, zero-emissions deliveries, 100% Organic Milk contract in the UK. We care about giving everyone in the supply chain recognition from the Farmers in the field to the drivers working through the night and the family fighting over the cream top at their breakfast in the morning. Provenance is becoming increasingly important for many people and we’re all for that.

Organic

We believe that Organic food is good for you, the cows and the planet
We believe that Natural Milk (that is, batch-pasteurised, non-standardised, non-homogenised, Organic Milk) not only tastes BETTER, but it's also better for YOU too!
